Candyroot Golf is a newly proposed public golf course an hour drive south of Charlotte, North Carolina in Jefferson, South Carolina. Golf architect Mike Koprowski has previously designed and built Broomsedge in Rembert, South Carolina. Candyroot shares similar sandy soil and percolation characteristics as Broomsedge.
Carson Shaw was hired as grow-in superintendent in autumn 2025, with Joseph Scancarella serving as assistant superintendent. Like Perry Maxwell, Koprowski's differentiating skill among golf architects may be to build high-quality golf courses quickly on a small budget without any compromise in design, grow-in, or final product. Construction is being carried out by Total Turf Golf Construction led on site by Greg Hufner, Justin Appel, and Tim Maynard. Koprowski chose to have greens sprigged in TifEagle Bermudagrass and fairways sprigged in Tifway 419 Bermudagrass with support from Curtis Bruton and Eric Martin at Ewing Outdoor Supply. Irrigation plan work from John Leibold of Leibold Irrigation. Construction and grow-in is planned to finish by end of year 2026 to allow for early preview play at the Candyroot Lodge property. Anticipated full opening will be spring 2027.
Project Manager Nick Mazzella from the Mazzella Partnership is joining Koprowski for his second design as project manager.
Michelle Wie West will co-design the short course at Candyroot.
