Fazio's Halbert National - Texas

Halbert National is a new golf course in Granbury in Hood County, Texas southewest of Fort Worth. The golf course was designed by Tom Fazio for the Halbert family at a $50 million budget and will be ready for play in spring 2026. Halbert National is grassed with TifEagle greens and Zoysia fairways.

The site occupies 162 acres on Lake Granbury off Holly Hills Cemetery Road and west of The Peninsula and includes an 8 acre parcel formerly owned by the Brazos River Authority.

Nearby Peninsula development has soils characterized by Glen Rose limestone along Lake Granbury varying with shallow to moderately deep calcareous soils and variable permeability. The USDA Soil Survey and Granbury Survey of Historic Resources are references.

Prominent member clubs in Texas opened in 2025, namely Childress Hall, Freestone Lake Golf Club, and Loraloma Club in Austin. Similar to Halbert National, Beau Welling built Freestone Lake on a private lake. Other 2026 openings in the Fort Worth area include Maverick Ranch and Bluejack National. Closer to San Antonio, Luling Sport Club is another recent build with 36 holes designed by Kyle Franz and Oglivy Cocking Mead(OCM).

Estate course development with no plans for members is rare. Tim Jackson and David Kahn built an estate course Louisiana opening for play in 2023. Another example of an estate course built in the modern era is Three Ponds in Water Mill, New York designed by Rees Jones. Historical estate courses occasionally migrate into becoming club memberships, namely Morfontaine Golf Club founded 1913 by Armand de Gramont to commission Tom Simpson to design the 9-hole Vallière golf course at Morfontaine.
