Re-opening day for Tom Doak's first golf course High Pointe Golf Club came on July 19, 2024. High Pointe originally opened in 1989. Despite acclaim for the design, High Pointe Golf Club closed in 2008. New owner Rod Trump led the reopening of High Pointe with additional land.
Design partner Don Placek posted the original plans to Instagram and the updated 2024 revision. Placek is widely accepted as the premier design hard copy plan expert in putting golf architecture in a frame.
High Pointe was known for its minimalist approach using the natural landscape to expose the natural contours. Grow in superintendent Dan Lucas is the Director of Agronomy. Lucas was previously at nearby Kingsley managing fescue grass on the golf course. Lucas won the 2024 Golf Association of Michigan (GAM) Superintendent Award of Merit. Lucas is a graduate of Michigan State University’s turfgrass management program.
