Hogans Gully - New Zealand Golf Resort
A $30 million golf resort is set to enhance the landscape near Arrowtown, New Zealand has been permitted and approved by Queensland Lakes District Council. Development of the 300+ acres Hogan’s Gully property will feature an 18 hole golf course designed by Hanse Golf Design and Greg Turner. This will be Gil Hanse's first golf course design in New Zealand.
Ben Taylor is the grow-in superintendent. Taylor was previously the course manager/superintendent at The Hills.
Additionally, 96 homes have been permitted. The resort aligns with the Queenstown Lakes District Council's Proposed District Plan aiming to provide desirable international golf tourist visitor amenities while respecting the surrounding rural context.
The 158 hectare resort plans to prioritize ecological planting and protection programs to enhance the countryside. The resort will include a walking/cycling trail apart from the golf course linking the property to the wider Wakatipu Trails network. Neighboring golf courses in Arrowtown are Millbrook Resort, The Hills, and Jack’s Point.
Golf architect Greg Turner has been working alongside Queenstown's Baxter Design Group for landscape design and site plan. The clubhouse will be designed by Auckland architect Andrew Patterson. The site’s terrain is a unique, rocky landscape rich in natural features like schist. Project consultant is Ryan Brandeburg. Brandeburg is the executive director of Golf Tourism New Zealand and brings his past experience as director of golf at North Island courses Kauri Cliffs and Cape Kidnappers to this ambitious project.
Yardage Book podcast interviewed golf architect Greg Turner discussing the ongoing project's progress with a likely opening in 2028. Turner has also designed and built nearby Gibbston 9 hole resort project.
