Majarambuz Golf Club - La Zagaleta

CEO Jacobo Cestino of the La Zagaleta Group is developing Majarambuz Golf Club, a new Tom Doak designed golf course in Andalucia, Spain. It will be the first golf course designed by golf architect Tom Doak in Spain. The project has already obtained all the necessary permits to start construction. Preliminary designs have been finalized according to a statement by Valderrama 07, a subsidiary of La Zagaleta Group.

Locally, the mayor of Castellar, AdriƔn Vaca, has welcomed the announcement by praising the prestige of landing Tom Doak as its visionary designer. External to the proejct, the mayor has also requested infrastructure improvements to the local A-2100 highway as an important matter to connect Castellar with Sotogrande.

Property origins: Valderrama founder Jaime Ortiz-PatiƱo acquired properties La Cierva and La Guillena in 1998. In 2008, Mayor Vaca from Castellar approved the plans for the construction of a second Valderrama golf course. The 530+ acre Majarambuz Golf Club property is in the municipality of San Roque bordering Sotogrande adjacent to protected wilderness areas.

Majarambuz Golf Club is intended to be one of the most exclusive golf clubs in continental Europe. The club foresees a charter for a limited, invitation-only membership of about 300 with requirements of a low handicap, skilled player only to enjoy the course. Adjacent, the club intends to offer hotel and brand residence amenities for public visitors with access to the clubhouse restricted to members and their guests.

Golf architect Tom Doak's current crop of courses opening from 2023-2026 is an eclectic group in different parts of the world with widely varying biomes:

Cabot Highlands, Childress Hall, Punta Brava, SandGlass, Sedge Valley, Te Arai North

Doak is regarded as the current thought leader in appraising the World's best golf courses as recognized by U.S. Golf Magazine's Top 100 World list.
