Singapore Island Country Club - Island Course Renovation
Singapore Island Country Club, Island Course is undergoing an 18 month renovation and is expected to be completed in 2025. List of renovation items to preserve includes salvaging of bunker sand, relocation of irrigation sprinkler fittings, tree removal for transplant, cowgrass transplantation to external site, and stripping the Island greens for use at the Bukit Course's greens Serangoon grass collar areas. Golf Course Architect Nelson & Haworth Design is leading the renovation plans. Neil Haworth died in June 2024 in Ottawa, Canada.
Additional support for golf course construction includes civil engineer JYC Consultants Pte Ltd, irrigation specialist Aqua Turf International, and surveyor WT Partnership. Golf Course Consultant Chris Gray from Gray International Golf is providing advisory services. Budget for the project has been set in the range of $28 to 34 million SGD.
The redesigned course construction plans include extensive subsurface drainage and SubAir system to manage moisture levels in the greens. The site will be sandcapped to cope with tropical rainfall events. Bunker design and liner materials are being planned to reduce bunker washouts. Recent improvements in Zeon and Trinity zoysia grasses will reduce the usage of fertilizer inputs, disease and invasive grass/weed intrusions, and improved drainage.
