Wakulla Sands Golf Course - 6 Million Gallon Aquifer
Wakulla Golf Course is a public golf course owned and operated by Wakulla County in Florida. Project Masterplan was prepared by Dewberry. The golf course was formerly known as the Wild Wood Golf and RV Resort but was renamed in 2022 after gaining planning permission from the county stakeholders.
Total cost of the renovation was $9 million. The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) provided a $4.9 million grant as part of its Water Quality Improvement Grant Program. fundamental component of the renovation is sustainability initiative to use reclaimed water to maintain land and add to the county aquifer. A 6,000,000 gallon irrigation pond lined with HDPE plastic has been created on the renovated golf course.
Design was led by Dan Schlegel with golf construction company Wadsworth building the course. Wadsworth team member Rodney Luck from Wadsworth oversaw construction onsite. Local supplier Pike Creek Turf provided turfgrass sod and sprigs.
In addition to the golf course, Wakulla Sands will also feature a driving range, and the RV park on the property will remain. The site is off of Highway 98, 10 miles south of Crawfordville. The course reopend with greens fees under $40.
